Standings in the Stands: Week 6

We’ve got school spirit, yes we do! We have school spirit, how about you?

The competition was as fierce as ever last week.

We saw signs, sharks, birthday songs, bugs, fruit, flips, push-ups, principals, principals doing push-ups, parents leading cheers and, our personal favorite, “AP” chants.

It was remarkable.

Don’t believe me. Watch for yourself.

If you want to see your school make the cut next week, send AP photos on Twitter (@AndrewPekarek),  Snapchat (AndrewPekarek) or Facebook (PrepsAgenda) of your crew showing its fandom at a game this week.

We’re still working out the kinks in saving Snapchat videos, but we’re making progress and getting better at that.

As always, student sections, bands, teachers and parents are encouraged to apply.

The “Standings in the Stands” grand champion is a participation trophy, so your participation is needed to win.

5. West De Pere

Congratulations Phantoms, you’re on the board. You were colorful on jersey night and provided solid acoustics between the placement of your band bleachers and student section. There’s still time for you to make a run in the season standings.

4. Pulaski

The Red Sea is a steady player on here, but we’re still waiting to see this group play up to its potential under the leadership of Emily “Home-Run Hitting and Hoop Swishing ” Higgins. The pressure is definitely on this week as Pulaski attempts to avoid falling too far behind in the season standings and has an opportunity for bonus points that is custom built for the Red Sea.

3. Luxemburg-Casco

The ‘Burg overcame a bug problem last week as it watched its football team rally from a 19-0 halftime deficit to win at Freedom. Singing happy birthday to coach’s son was a nice touch and the ‘Burg continues to experiment as it searches for an official fruit to call its own.

Danae Srnka has been carrying this team for much of the year, so having a parent step up with the funky chicken last week helped take some of that pressure off her shoulders.

2. G.B. Southwest

Kudos to this group (Sorry, we haven’t come up with a cool nickname yet) for creating the most creative sign and incorporating its principal. We absolutely loved the shark sighting as well. John Gahnz will continue to coach this group up.

1. Ashwaubenon

The power of the pineapple seemingly can’t be stopped right now. The Jaguars vaulted to the top spot for the second time in three weeks and have made a dramatic climb to second place in the season standings with their effort last week by picking up 10 bonus points for the best “AP” chant.

Tark Meske and Jaguar Jen are leading a group that appears to be a couple steps ahead of the competition, too. They answered Green Bay Southwest’s principal pic by having their principal do the push-up board.

But Ashwaubenon can credit Morgan Gauthier for being in the top spot this week.

Gauthier came in clutch for her team by showing up just a couple days after having her appendix removed. That’s team spirt. Ashwaubenon legend Ben Wittig – who showed up last year after getting his wisdom teeth removed – would be proud of Gauthier’s performance.
