Standings in the Stands: Week 4
You can tell we’re hitting the midway point of the season.
It looked like schools were in midseason cheering form last week, making for some very difficult decisions.
The efforts from Ashwaubenon, Green Bay Southwest, Luxemburg-Casco and Pulaski were tremendous as usual.
So much so that the Fantastic Four has scared everyone else away.
If your school hasn’t participated in Standings in the Stands yet, there is still time to get back into the game and chase that No. 1 spot.
Follow the directions at the bottom to read how your school can earn bonus points to play catch up.
If you want to see your school make the cut next week, send AP photos and/or videos on Twitter (@AndrewPekarek), Snapchat (AndrewPekarek) or Facebook (PrepsAgenda) of your crew showing its fandom at a game this week.
As always, student sections, bands, teachers, principals and parents are encouraged to apply.
5. WDOR Radio
Nick Olson and Chad Michaels are the best play-by-play radio team in the state when it comes to high school sports. We’re not sure if they gave us a shout out or not last week when we were in Brussels, but we’re sure your call of a one-handed grab by Kewaunee’s McCoy Walechka that made SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays was tremendous. Thanks for your coverage of high school sports.
4. G.B. Southwest
S³ came through with its strongest performance of the year to show that last year’s champion still is capable of making a run this season. However, we honestly think it forgot to make signs and improvised by painting the “AP” initials on their biceps. It was kind of weak, but we gave them the five bonus points anyway. We encourage Michael Vivian, the MVP of this group, to study up on last year’s tape (sending group photos is helpful) and look at the schools that are in front of you for pointers on how to climb the standings for next week.
3. Luxemburg-Casco
The ‘Burg continues to put together solid performances. Its group cheers are strong. Its videos and photos are clear. It continues to have the biggest and most vibrant signs. Miceli Mania is clearly running wild, but the group is just missing something to put it over the top. The competition is fierce, but we feel the ‘Burg will find a way to get to the top. It’s too talented not to.
2. Ashwaubenon
The Pineapple People put together another great showing, but it wasn’t quite enough to claim the top spot for an unprecedented fourth week in a row. Putting our face on a pineapple was a nice touch and the group also earned 10 bonus points for best parent/faculty cheer by having Cam Wheeler’s mom lead row the boat. Everyone else is still chasing the Pineapple People in the season standings thanks to the strong efforts of Chayse Earney and Addison Stromberg.
1. Pulaski
The Red Seas finally discovered the power of the sign last week and sent us a brigade of them. Besides finally getting the message on the “AP” signs to earn bonus points, the Red Sea earned five bonus points by having the best reason for why they should be No. 1. The Red Sea also earned the top spot for Standings in the Stands for the first time this season thanks to the efforts of the Zac-Pack. He not only helped produced a No. 1 performance in the stands during a big victory for the football team, but earlier in the day scored four goals in the first half of a shutout win for the soccer team. The Zac-Pack is like Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson with his two-sport efforts, only he doesn’t have a helicopter to transport him from one game to the next.
