Standings in the Stands: No. 1
We didn’t know them at the start of the season, and we’re pretty sure they didn’t know us, either.
The Green Bay Southwest student section was soaking wet and looked kind of out of place on Aug. 17 at Pulaski when we first met.
They certainly did not look like champions in their flannels back then.
But as the season went on, S³ proved it was consistent and seemingly improved each week. Quite frankly, they’re more creative than us, coming up with the “Pekarek’s Pals” sign.
It got principal Rod Bohm regularly in on the act and even put us on the marquee in front of the school.
They put themselves over the top last week by making “Preps Agenda” shirts.
Yes, S³ overcame some rough waters this season behind a swimmer, John Gahnz, and rose to the top of the “Standings in the Stands.”
Congratulations, you proved you’re indeed No. 1.
We’ll be in touch for an unofficial participation trophy presentation to S³ in the near future.
We’d like to thank Green Bay Southwest, Wrightstown, Ashwaubenon, Luxemburg-Casco and Pulaski for simply being awesome this season. We hope our “Standings in the Stands” added to the fun on Friday nights this fall. Picking just one of you was not an easy task.
What we learned in doing this is there are great young leaders out there that care about their classmates and communities, and we need more of those.
You know where to find us if you want to continue to send stuff during the playoffs. Hit us up on Twitter (@AndrewPekarek), Snapchat (AndrewPekarek) or Facebook (PrepsAgenda) of your crew showing its fandom at a game this week.
As always, student sections, bands, teachers, principals and parents are encouraged to apply.
5. Pulaski
The principal and a police officer were welcomed into the Red Sea last week. Sources say it was still smooth sailing for this bunch.

4. Luxemburg-Casco
We’re sure what happened to the ‘Burg in Week 9, but this was something straight out of bizarro world. Luxemburg-Casco assistant coaches Greg Rabas and Roger Groll swapped high school jackets for a practice. Rabas, a Kewaunee alum, and Groll, an Algoma alum, sent shockwaves along the lakeshore in doing so in this weird showing of school spirit.
3. Ashwaubenon
The Pineapple Peeps brought its enthusiasm to “Shabagdad” according to Jaguar Jen last week. It was no surprise Ashwaubenon still outnumbered Sheboygan South despite the travel. Yes, they did have the best “Yes” chant.
2. Wrightstown
The Wright Stuff Squad has really come on at the end of the season. Following last week’s mascot-photo-op denial, we were impressed with its sportsmanship showcased in the handshake line with Little Chute. Kudos to this bunch for getting a “Pekarek’s Pals” sign on WFRV Channel 5’s High Schools Sports Xtra.
1. G.B. Southwest
S³ proved its No. 1 last week and got us involved with the “AP” chant. But what really put this group in the top spot for Week 9 and ultimately earned them the deciding point for the championship was Zak Nelson. The state-qualifying wrestler shows up to the game after getting surgery to repair a broken elbow in the morning. That’s clutch.
