Seymour, Wrightstown girls end season on a high note

Lauren Rottier wasn’t going to be satisfied unless she left La Crosse with some hardware around her neck this year.

The Seymour senior set her goals high and reached them in her final season to make a trip to the WIAA state track & field podium for the first time at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

“It’s so exciting,” Rottier said. “It’s something I’ve been waiting to do all four years. It feels so good.”

Rottier cleared 5 feet, 5 inches to place third in the Division 2 girls high jump.

The mark is a personal-best for Rottier, who said she had been “stuck” at 5-2 for a portion of the season after clearing 5-5 at the Girls Oshkosh Small School Invite on March 27.

Rottier, who will compete in track & field at St. Norbert College, finishes her prep career as a six-time state qualifier, having advanced five times for individual events. She also won four individual Bay Conference titles, including two straight high jump titles.

Rottier had two opportunities at reaching the WIAA state podium last weekend. She finished 10th in her third state appearance in the pole vault.

Seymour junior Erin Schuh placed third in the pole vault by clearing 10-9 in her first state appearance.

Schuh won the Bay Conference title this year and set a personal-best mark of 11-0 this season.

“I just thought it was super cool being in a stadium this big,” Schuh said. “It kind of hyped me up, and I knew that I had to do my best. The pressure kind of hypes me up.”

The D2 girls pole vault and high jump also featured competitors from Wrightstown.

Junior Jackie Martin advanced to state in the pole vault to make it eight straight years a Wrightstown girl qualified for state in the event.

Meanwhile, junior Brianna Beining was making her third state appearance in the high jump. She reached the podium for the second straight year by clearing 5-4 to place fifth.

“It’s great,” Beining said. “My goal was to here and jump and get something in the top six, and that’s what I did.”
