Preble adds to strong relay tradition
The handoff of the baton is key to the success of any relay.
Green Bay Preble’s success you could also say is partially dependent on passing down traditions.
“The young guys had to bring the snacks,” Preble senior Jack Dessart.

Sophomores Ashton Verdoorn and D’Angelo Dear packed Fruity Pebbles for the WIAA state track and field meet this year.
The colorful cereal played a small part in the quartet of Dessart, Verdoorn, Dear and junior Kaiser Neverman capturing medals with a fourth-place finish in the Division 1 boys 800-meter relay.
“I think it’s pretty fun ending your career on the podium is always a success, especially with some of the young guys we have here,” Dessart said.
Preble’s 800 relay produced a time of 1 minute, 28.88 seconds in finals to lead the Green Bay area this season and rank second on the school’s all-time record board.
It’s the 11th time the Preble boys have advanced to state in the 800 relay and the sixth time the relay has placed, which included last year when Dessart and Neverman helped the relay place fifth.
The additions of Verdoorn and Dear this year helped the relay come within an eyelash of the school record.
Meanwhile, Carley Duffney broke a girls school record at the state meet this year. The sophomore recorded a time of 45.84 seconds in the 300 hurdles to finish seventh, breaking the previous school record by 0.2 seconds.
