NEC Recap: Wrightstown’s Beining continues to hit high marks

WRIGHTSTOWN – Three Wrightstown athletes combined to win four individuals titles at North the Eastern Conference track and field championships on May 12.

The Tigers, who were hosting the conference meet for the first time since opening their new track last year, got championship wins from juniors Brianna Beining and Morgan Collins on the girls side, while senior Jacob Beining won a pair of titles in the boys competition.

Brianna Beining won her third straight high jump title by clearing 5-feet, 2 inches.

She is tied for sixth in Division 2 with a season-best mark of 5-3 and will be looking to climb one step higher on the WIAA state podium after finishing as the D2 runner-up last season.

Collins, a two-time state qualifier in the 200-meter dash, won her first conference title Saturday.

However, it didn’t come in one of the sprints. She claimed the NEC crown in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.62 seconds, which shattered her season-best time of 50.71 seconds coming into the meet.

Collins now ranks first in the Green Bay area and seventh in D2 for the 300 hurdles.

Jacob Beining

Jacob Beining swept the boy throws. The senior won the discus with a toss of 138-5 and then won the shot put with a mark of 48-11.

Beining follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Nathan, who swept the throws at the inaugural NEC meet in 2016.

Distance dominance

The Luxemburg-Casco boys team put together a strong showing to finish as the runner-up to Freedom, which swept both team titles at the NEC meet for the third straight year.

Senior Hunter Liebeck led the way for the Spartans, posting wins in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs with times of 4:33.23 and 10:00.26, respectively.

Liebeck, who repeated as the NEC 1,600 champion, leads the Green Bay area with a time of 4:27.21 this season and will be aiming to advance to state for a second straight year in the event.
