FRCC Recap: De Pere’s Matzke, Preble’s Buergi win triple crowns
PULASKI – There was a sharp contrast to the Fox River Classic Conference track & field championships Tuesday at Saputo Stadium.
The girls competition was filled with repeat champions, as half of the 18 events were won by a repeat champion.
The boys field featured just one repeat champion.
The Bay Port boys team reigned supreme again, winning the FRCC title for a fourth time in five years by edging Green Bay Preble, 155-152.5.
Meanwhile, Preble captured the girls team title for the first time since 2010.
Pulaski’s Annika Linzmeier and Grace Matzke became four-time event champions at the FRCC meet.

Linzmeier won the 3,200-meter run for a fourth time in her last meet on her home track, while Matzke was able to claim a fourth title in the 400.
Matzke reset her own FRCC record with a time of 57.63 seconds to edge Ashwaubenon’s Mara Schroeder by a tenth of a second.
Matzke also picked up her third straight titles in the 100 and 200, the latter of which she broke another FRCC record with a time of 25.45 seconds.
Green Bay Preble senior Gavin Buergi duplicated the three wins in the 100, 200 and 400 in the boys field.
Buergi became a three-time champion in the 100 with a personal-best time of 10.89 seconds.
