Denmark senior Leah Kralovetz won the state championship in the Division 2 girls 1,600-meter run with a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 56.84 seconds.
Kralovetz was one of five athletes from the Green Bay area to medal in Division 2 and Division 3 on Day 1 of the WIAA state track and field meet.
Kewaunee junior Tanor Bortolini placed fourth in the D2 boys shot put with a personal-best throw of 51-5 with his last throw in finals. The University of Wisconsin football recruit made state as an extra qualifier.
Denmark senior Jackson Koenig also placed fifth in the D2 boys shot put with a throw of 50-5 1/4.
Door County sent a pair of individuals to state podium in D3.
Gibraltar senior Evan Henry placed fourth in the boys 3,200-meter run, while Sevastopol junior Kiegen Sargent placed sixth in the boys long jump with a leap of 21-5.
All field events and distance runs held Friday were finals, where the top six places medal. Meanwhile, sprints and shorter runs were preliminaries with the Top 10 places making Saturday’s finals.
