Sage Wagner highlighted Day 1 for local Division 1 competitors at the WIAA state track and field meet.
The Ashwaubenon senior finished as the state runner-up in the girls 1,600-meter run with a personal-best run of 4 minutes, 56.22 seconds.
Overall, the Green Bay area produced seven D1 state medalists Friday from events that were finals.
Bay Port sophomore Ella Meeuwsen placed third in the girls high jump.
Meeuwsen was one of three medalists for the Pirates, as junior Isaiah Gash placed fourth in the boys triple jump and junior Braden Doyle placed fifth in the boys discus.
Green Bay Preble junior Khalid Mohamed placed sixth in the boys 3,200-meter run with a personal-best time of 9:19.85.
The De Pere boys 3,200 relay placed fourth, while West De Pere junior Haylee Olson placed sixth in the long jump.
All field events and distance runs held Friday were finals, where the top six places medal. Meanwhile, sprints and shorter runs were preliminaries with the Top 10 places making Saturday’s finals.
