L-C presents 99 problems in backfield
If you would have told Luxemburg-Casco football coach Dillon Maney a few weeks ago that Nathan Coisman would be his team’s leading rusher in its first game, he probably wouldn’t have believed you.
However, that ended up being the case as the junior rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns in the Spartans’ 34-14 victory over Denmark last Friday in a North Eastern Conference matchup.
“We were sketching some stuff down in the coaches office and said why don’t we give him a try?,” Maney said. “He’s 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, so it’s hard to tackle that kid.”

Coisman stuck out like a sore thumb in L-C’s backfield from the moment he lined up at tailback on its first drive.
It was a new perspective for No. 99, who also plays tight end and was a first-team all-NEC linebacker last year.
Coisman had 18 carries in the game with none going for negative yardage. That’s exactly what the Spartans were looking for when they decided to feature him in a new personnel package during preseason practices.
“We were trying to set the tone in practice because we felt practices were a little dull,” said Maney, whose team plays at Fox Valley Lutheran Friday. “So, coach (Greg) Rabas and coach (Greg) Klaubauf put together a package to bring something a little more to it.
“We could have put Austin (Tlachac) back there, but we wanted to make sure it never lost yards. It was going to be all straightforward, do some overload stuff and have some fun with it. The kids really like it. It changes tempo at practice and does some really good things.”
